English Teacher

Lida Thang has been teaching at Garfield for nine wonderful years. She loves it here at Garfield because the students truly ROCK!

Before Garfield, she was in El Monte and in Baldwin Park. Lida Thang has also worked with charter schools in a homeschool setting. She started teaching in the year 2000, but went into Magnet in 2016.

She has been married for 22 years to the love of my life they have four kids who keep them sane and drive Them insane at the same time.

Lida Thang loves teaching English because she is a bookworm. She loves to read anything she can get her hands on, but her favorite book would have to be "Pride and Prejudice" and the Bible. Lida Thang remembers staying up all night to read "Pride and Prejudice" in 8th grade honors English. She could not wait to see if Mr. Darcy would finally win the heart of his girl. She has read the Bible as much as she can because there is so much wisdom in that book and it has taught her so much about life, love and other mysteries.

Lida Thang's vision for teaching is to see that my students fall in love with reading and writing. In her class, students will read and write daily. She believes that reading and writing is the foundation for all other subjects. Thus, we practice endlessly. She believes practice brings improvement. Her teaching motto is:

"Tell me and I forget.
Show me and I remember.

Let me do and I understand."

She look forward to an awesome year with my students!
